Our 3 and 4 year old children learn and play in our Butterfly room. We offer morning or afternoon sessions for our children. Morning sessions are 9.00- 12.00 and afternoon sessions are 12.30 - 3.30. In addition, eligible children attend for 30 hours provision.
The classroom offers a wide variety of continuous provision activities for the children to access independently throughout the day. In addition to the well-resourced classroom, children have access to a dedicated outdoor area, with opportunities to move freely and to explore.
Learning is led by our Early Years Teachers and supported by experienced Teaching Assistants. Every child has an identified Key Person, who will help them feel happy and secure in class, responding to the child’s individual needs. The Key Person will also form strong links with the child’s family, working collaboratively to support each child’s progress.
Throughout the day children have opportunities to engage in ‘Child Initiated Play’, where they can choose from the full range of activities and resources available within continuous provision. During this time, skilled staff will observe and support children’s learning, responding to their interests and motivations. There will be times when children join together in groups to take part in stories, songs, and circle time activities. Adults in the setting will also support children’s learning and development through focused tasks and activities, scaffolded according to children’s needs.
Children are offered snack during their session, with a focus on healthy eating and developing good eating practices. Healthy snacks include fruit, vegetables and a drink of milk or water. This is also an opportunity for children to develop their social skills as the adults encourage polite conversation.
In addition to the environments outlined above, Nursery has extensive grounds, including a Forest School and Orchard area which are used throughout the school year.
